Fishing and spearfishing at Macaronis Resort, North Pagai of the Mentawai Islands in Indonesia.
In 2012 we worked as freelancers at the Macaronis Surf Resort in the Mentawai Islands of Indonesia. Staying here for 10 weeks gave us the opportunity to not only explore the great waves in this area but also the underwater life. The fishing, diving and spearfishing was great. We are still amazed of how energetic and full of fish the reefs were around the resort.
Going spearfishing, meant going snorkeling for me! I loved the idea of venturing for new keyholes and exploring the underwater life. You can expect all sorts of reef fishes like Sweet lips, Trevally’s, Groupers, and Snappers when you go out spearfishing. Our favorite edible fish remains the Red Snapper. We caught a Giant Trevally while spinning just out front the resort in the lagoon.
Expect the most common pelagic fish including the dog-tooth and yellow fin tuna, wahoo, spanish mackerel, barracuda and mahi mahi when trawling with the boat.
Important note: All fishes caught were contributed to the Macaronis Resort and served as a meal for either lunch or dinner.
